“It can seem daunting when you first begin marketing your business on social media, but in the end it’s definitely worth it. There are a ton of tutorials on YouTube that provide step-by-step guides on how to effectively use each platform.”

This year has been a challenging one to say the least! The only real business, socializing and networking happening is on social media. My business has survived this pandemic, in part, because of Social Media. Anyone who has purchased my products, visited my salon, taken my classes or contacted me in any way has done so through social media. Over the years, we’ve all heard that we need to embrace social media, and it’s true. Most people spend the majority of their day on a computer, phone, or both. Websites are considered old news when compared to newer media platforms like Instagram and Tik Tok. Instagram is probably the largest visual platform and the most influential for the hairdressing and beauty community. It’s very easy to promote one’s craft on a platform that is completely dedicated to sharing ones’ photos and videos. If you’re a hairdresser today, you must have a visual presence on Instagram. When I host TV shows, and whenever I work on set, people always follow each other on Instagram. It’s definitely the new business card!

Facebook is another social media platform that is here to stay and used by many in the beauty industry. It’s a tried-and-true destination for personal, business and philanthropic use. Facebook provides endless ways to connect and build a community. I have a personal page, a business page and now an exclusive page for attendees of my virtual classes. Facebook is a relationship builder and it’s vital.

And let’s not forget LinkedIn and YouTube. LinkedIn is more of a professional platform dedicated to creating a forum for business networking, recruiting, job searching and information sharing. You never know where you’ll land your next job or find your next candidate, so keep your information up to date and share with the community when you can. YouTube is a great vehicle for developing video content to help promote your business. You can upload videos of haircuts/color/special salon services, etc. It can seem daunting when you first begin marketing your business on social media, but in the end it’s definitely worth it. There are a ton of tutorials on YouTube that provide step-by-step guides on how to effectively use each platform. Invest a bit of time researching how to develop a social media strategy that best suits your specific needs, and then go for it!
